Flea market find — 19 September 2024

Went to a flea market at my old school and found a few CDs that they wanted to get rid of. A strange mix but fun to add to the range of music in my collection. Bukkene Bruse is Norwegian folk music, the other two need no introduction.

Brick City Three, 2008

Brick City Three

This CD was sent to me in the mail after seeing a post on the CD Collectors subreddit where someone was giving away free CDs...

Todd of the band ended up sending CDs all over the world and had conversations with all the recipients. He then created a good old-fashioned mailing list, and I recently received a snail mail newsletter with two BC3 stickers! I just love how this project connected completely random people together across the world through the love of CDs. Todd is moving the conversations away from Reddit and onto email and postal mailing list for a more personal mode of contact — even better!

BC3 play fun, rowdy, party rock with the occasional rude lyric.

For more info about BC3 check out their Linktree and Bandcamp.

Moon Landing, 2009

Sivert Høyem — Moon Landing

This one is actually pretty good. Warm, melodic, americana rock from Norwegian singer Sivert, who is known as vocalist for the band Madrugada. (Fun fact: Madrugada and Sivert are huge in Greece for some reason...!)

R.E.M. — Around the Sun

Growing up in the 90s, with limited access to music meant that for me buying an R.E.M. CD was a safe choice when you didn't know what else to buy. 'Everybody' liked them. I was never a huge fan but somehow I have four of their CDs... This one got really bad reviews but when I popped it on at home I thought it was actually quite pleasant to listen to in the background. Not bad as I think I paid five kroner for it (less than $1)...
